Dowse Norwood Architects Website

Put online in June 2004, this highly successful website has now been ported completely over to a Dynamic Content Management System (CMS).

Dowse Norwood Architects Website was proudly created by VRgrafix in association with IIC for Business Services.

The original DNA website was created as a static site in Dreamweaver by VRgrafix, but due to a busy workload, content was rarely updated and the newer jobs / portfolio items never ended up online.

Dynamic Site

To help alieviate the "static website" syndrome, DNA engaged VRgrafix to revamp the site into a fully Dynamic Content Management System (CMS).

The "engine" behind the chosen CMS is called Typo3. TYPO3 is a free Open Source content management system for enterprise purposes on the web and in intranets. It offers full flexibility and extendability while featuring an accomplished set of ready-made interfaces, functions and modules.

IIC

The programming services of IIC Business Services were called upon to help the migration along, converting static pages into dynamic content items, allowing ultimate flexibility in keeping the site easy to update and completely change at the save of a button. As with any CMS - the initial setup / creation of the website to suit clients needs is critical.

How it works

The whole website is now accessed online, with no specialist software required on any of the machines nor specialist services. Once complete, the entire site can be accessed from any browser, and the Typo3 software resides on the server.

Adding new pages / new news items or photographs is done completely within the browser. New images are simply browsed for on your local hard drive, then uploaded at the click of a button. All image handling is taken care of by Typo3 - including image sizing and optimising.

All changes to content / items is done by DNA staff with a simple login to the website. The basis of the dynamic site is that content (any text / news / images) is easy to edit and change, thereby making the site more active.

How do I convert my Website ?

If you wish to have your website updated to the CMS revolution, with reduced running costs, easily updatable and extensible online, with an opensource, freely available engine, then please feel free to contact Paul of IIC or Bernie of VRgrafix to discuss your design.
